Umbiko is the annual magazine published by Africa Health Research institute (AHRI), the leading institute for TB and HIV research in Africa. The publication is a round-up of news, important projects and events which AHRI is involved with over the year. The magazine is published in both English and isiZulu, has a print run of 26 000 and goes to employees, various stakeholders, fieldworkers and communities with which AHRI partners to do research. Our brief was to turn the existing newsletter-like product into a magazine publication that would appeal to a diverse audience, from scientists and funders to fieldworkers, while incorporating AHRI’s strong brand identity.
